Sauna FAQ's
-
What are the opening times? The sauna is open 9am- 9.30pm daily.
-
Do I need to book?Yes! All sessions must be booked just to allow us to keep track of usage for safety and to make sure we have enough logs etc! Social sessions are free and included in your holiday or if you'd like to guarantee sole use of the sauna for your group you can book a private 1 hr session for £20. Bookings for private sessions open 14 days in advance and social sessions 7 days in advance. Bookings can be made right until the last minute so if you come back from a big walk and fancy a sauna to ease the legs just jump on the booking calendar and if there's space then you can book and go straight away!
-
Are children allowed?Yes! The sauna is a great place for families to relax together and children aged 4 and above can use the sauna however it is imperative that a responsible adult observes how a child’s body is responding to the high temperatures and is aware of signs of discomfort such as dizziness, headaches and feeling too hot. As a very rough guide, our children aged 4 and 6 enjoy the sauna with us at about 40oC for 5-10 minute sessions and splash up to their knees in the plunge pool between sessions. Ratio of Adults to children under 12 is 1:1. Anyone under 18 years old must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Children should never be left unattended. The stove is very hot and would cause severe burns if touched or fallen against. As a rule, the younger the child, the more vigilant the adult needs to be.
-
What temperature is the sauna? This is really up to you but most people enjoy it between 60-90oC. The temperature can be controlled by adding more logs or opening the door or window to cool it down.
-
How many people can use the sauna?Up to 6 people can use the sauna at a time. Please do not exceed this or you will be liable for any damage or injury caused.
-
How do I light the sauna log burning stove? It will take 45-60 mins to light the sauna and get it up to temperature. Check out our full instructions here
-
Can I put water or essential oils on the sauna rocks? No, our sauna operates as a dry sauna. Please do not add anything to the rocks. This could cause a health and safety risk and you will be liable for any damage.
-
How long should I stay in the sauna?Listen to your body and take breaks as soon as you feel you need to. Most people enjoy the rounds of 5-15 minutes in the heat with breaks of 5-10 minutes to cool down in between. There is a timer on the wall you can use to keep track of how long you have been in. You can fully submerge in the plunge pool or just stand outside, its up to you!! However we do recommend you try at least a few splashes from the plunge pool to get the skin tingling and enjoy the full experience!
-
How does the plunge pool work? The wooden dam at the end of the plunge pool can be raised or lowered or removed completely to change the level of the water in the pool but it will never get more than about 3ft deep to keep it as safe as we can for all users. We advise wearing water shoes or croc type shoes in the plunge pool as there can be sharp stones on the bottom. Please ask children not to throw stones/sticks etc into the plunge pool as we've spent about a year trying to get the stones out of it and get it to a usable depth!!!
-
Do I have to sit on a towel?Yes please! This protects the sauna benches from stains and help us to keep it hygienic for all.
-
How long does it take to get the sauna up to temperature? It takes 45-60 minutes to get the sauna up to operating temperature? You can read the full instructions here
-
Is the sauna supervised? No, our sauna is self service so you'll need to light it and operate it yourself. This means you get the full experience and can decide what temperature you like! You can find the full Sauna Stove lighting Instructions here
-
What do I need to bring?Swimwear A towel to sit on Drinking water (no glass or metal bottles) Advised - crocs / water shoes / flip flops (especially if using the cold plunge pool) Advised - a changing robe
